This page allows to create or edit a Content Item.
Toolbar Icons

Upload: Opens a new window which lets you upload a file or an image from your computer to the images/stories folder.
Save: Saves the content and returns to Manager.
Apply: Saves the content and keep the content displayed to edit.
Close: Cancels the action. Any modification is lost. If opened to edit, the Content Item remains checked-in.
Item Details Title: Type here is the title of the content. This is the title as it will appear on the page or table listing this content.
Title Alias: This field is not used by core. SEF scripts and dynamic title/meta scripts use it and it may have a future use.
Section: Choose here the Section you want the item to belong to.
Category: Choose here the category you want the item to belong to. The dropdown list will display the available Categories for the Secton chosen above.
Intro Text (required): Type here the introductory portion of the content. This is the part displayed in Blog Lists for both Categories and Sections. It can also be configured to be hidden when you view the content.
Main Text (optional): This is the body of your content. It is only shown when viewing that content in full view, and is not shown in Blog Lists.
Content Mambots: Content Mambots are special tags you place in your content that Joomla parses to perform a particular action or function. These Mambots will be available (if published) even if you choose NO WYSIWYG editor in the Global Configuration. They may be published or edited through the Mambot Manager (Mambots->Site Mambots, Filter set to content).
The two default Mambots specifically used when editing content are:
- (mosimage Mambot): Used to tell Joomla where to place graphics in your content.
- { mospagebreak} (mospaging Joomla): Instructs Joomla to create a page break in your content. You can break your content into several pages if you like. If you do, a table of content will display to let you navigate between the different pages created.
Buttons to insert these codes may be published or not through (Mambots->Site Mambots, Filter set to editor.xtd). You may also manually type them into your content. Remember that in order for your images to show in the content, you must insert the code snippet where you would like your image to be placed in your content.
NOTE: The images in the Intro Text can be hidden for Blog Lists. This is a configurable setting for these Menu Items. Also, this is a global setting that will affect your entire web site as a default in Global Configurations. If you are having trouble getting images to display within the Intro Text and the problem keeps cropping up in Blog Lists, then make sure that the Parameters for MOSImages is set to Show for that menu entry.
Formatting content The formatting options interface depend on the Editor you are using. Many editors are available as Open Source (through http://developer.joomla.org) or commercial products.
Joomla comes with 2 default editors:
- NO WYSIWYG: This editor lets you enter text and/or HTML code directly.
- TinyMCE: This editor lets edit in WYSIWYG or HTML mode (See specific Help).
NOTE: It is advised to publish only one editor at a time in Mambot Manager and to save also that choice in Global Configuration.
The Attributes Area for content consists of five tabs: Publishing, Images, Parameters, Meta Info and Link to Menu.

Global Checkin:
When a User edits a file, Joomla changes the file's status to "Checked Out". The file is locked and only the User who has checked it out can modify it. This is a security feature that prevents two users from editing a document at the same time, thus preventing the loss of data upon saving.
A Content Item remains "Checked Out" until the user clicks 'Save' or 'Cancel' while editing it. Once saved, the Content Item is "Checked In". However, if there's a connection error, such as when the user presses the browser's Back icon, or the user chooses another menu item without saving or canceling the work in progress, the Content Item remains "Checked Out." This means no one can edit it. If users report that they are unable to edit or access an item, verify the item's availability by looking in the Section, Category, or Item file list. If the item is labeled "Checked Out", an Administrator will make the item available again by performing a Global Checkin.
Global Checkin will unlock all Content Items currently "Checked Out." It can only be performed by an Administrator.
To perform a Global Checkin, select System > Global Checkin from the Administrator toolbar. After performing the Global Checkin, Joomla returns a list showing how many items, and from which tables, were checked back in.
WARNING: Performing a Global Checkin while documents are open for editing may result in data loss. All checked out items will be checked in and any unsaved changes will be lost.
System Info:
The System Info page provides detailed information about the system where your Joomla site is deployed. This includes version information for the site Operating System (OS), My SQL, PHP, Web server, and Joomla. It also includes the relevant PHP settings.
It is good practice to post system information along with bug reports or support requests to the Joomla forums.
The system information can be accessed by selecting 'Help' from the Administration Menu, then 'System Information' from the Index list. ------------------- NOTE: If you have suggestions/corrections for this Help Screen, please submit them on the doc forum. Submit Documentation Suggestions, Modifications and Corrections http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,10901.0.html Thank you!

Install/Uninstall a Language File or Template |

|
-- There are two ways to install a Language file or a Template using the Joomla administration system. Both methods assume the file you want to install is already stored on your local drive.
To Upload a Language file or Template: If your server has GZip support with PHP, you will be able to upload a zipped package file that will be installed automatically. "Browse" to the location of the element (zipped package file of a Language file or Template) on your computer. Then click the "Upload File & Install" icon.
To Install From a Directory: If you don't have GZip support, you must unpack the zipped file onto your local drive before uploading it. Unzip the archive into a folder on your local drive and upload the unpacked archive files to your host's server. Type the location of this file (it must be the absolute location) then click the 'Install' icon.
To Uninstall: If you want to delete any language go to the menu item Site > Language Manager > Site Languages and use the "Delete" icon.
If you want to delete any template go to menu item Site > Template Manager > Site Templates or > Administrator Templates and use the "Delete" icon. |

-- The information is displayed in a tabbed format with three main sections of content. System Tab: This a broad snapshot of the server and versions of the current installation components of your Joomla site. Here you will find your PHP build and version, your MySQL database version along with the Joomla version and relevant settings that your server has set that might interfere with your current site installation. Configuration: This will display the content of your Joomla configuration.php file. This file is produced when you perform the installation of Joomla on your server, and is changed when you make changes to in the global configuration section of the Administration of Joomla. This file defines many of the global variables that Joomla uses to execute. You can not edit the file from here, but it does allow you to look at your current settings to find problems or to copy the information for a support post on the forum on forum.joomla.org.
PHP: PHP is the server side scripting language that Joomla runs on. This language is installed and executes on the server, and therefore all the settings are made on that server. Everything you ever wanted to know about the PHP installation on your Joomla server is listed here. How much control you have over changing this information depends on whether you own the server or if your server host is willing to work with you on needed changes. The PHP tab will allow you to look at all the settings and variables that define your PHP installation. It is a good practice to insure that you know what requirements are needed for any 'Third Party' Components that you plan to use with Joomla. You can then check for those requirements here. |

-- There are two configuration options available to your Administrator. Use the select box to choose your option: 'YES AND NO' Lock Inbox: This option allows you to prevent Administrators or System processes from sending you messages. If you are the only administrator or work with a small group of admins you may choose not to use this feature at all. It is a good idea to leave the box open while you are adding new components as it will help you be aware of system processes. Mail me on new Message: This option will result in an email being sent to you each time you receive a new message. |
